Draft for the private beta. To be reviewed by a lawyer before public launch.
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 October 2026
locazn is a private network for neighbours, run by [Company legal name] (“we”). This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, who can see it, how long we keep it and the choices you have. It is written for our closed beta in India.
What we collect
- Sign-in details: your mobile number or email address, used to send you one-time codes.
- Profile: the name, photo and “about you” text you choose to add.
- Neighbourhood membership: which neighbourhoods you join, your role, and the flat, house or street you give when asking to join (shown only to that neighbourhood's admins).
- What you post: posts, replies, reactions, photos, videos, marketplace items, events, donation drives, RSVPs and contributions.
- Messages: the direct messages you send and receive.
- Reports and feedback: what you report or send us, including the page you were on and your browser type.
- Location: each neighbourhood has a map pin set by its admin. We do not store your personal location. If you use “Find neighbourhoods near me”, your device's location is used once for that search and not saved.
- Preferences: language, appearance and your Nearby distance.
- Technical data: error reports (without your messages or posts) and standard server logs, to keep the service working.
Why we use it
- To run the service: sign you in, show your neighbourhood's feed, deliver messages, and show nearby content.
- To keep the community safe: verify who belongs to a neighbourhood, handle reports, and act on misuse.
- To improve locazn from your feedback and from error reports.
We do not sell your data and we do not show ads during the beta.
Who can see what
- Your name, photo and posts are visible to approved members of your neighbourhood.
- Content you share “Nearby” is visible to approved members of neighbourhoods within a few kilometres.
- Messages are visible only to you and the person you are talking to, unless one of you reports the conversation, in which case the recent messages are shared with the relevant neighbourhood admins.
- Neighbourhood admins can see join requests (including the flat or house you give) and reports about content in their neighbourhood. Reporters' names are not shown.
Service providers
We use trusted providers to run locazn. They process data only on our instructions:
- Supabase: database, sign-in, file storage and messaging (data hosted in India, Mumbai region).
- Vercel: hosting the website.
- [Email provider]: sending sign-in codes by email.
- Sentry: error reports, configured not to include personal information.
- OpenStreetMap: map tiles and place search when an admin sets a neighbourhood's location.
How long we keep it
- Content stays until you or an admin delete it.
- Deleted content, deleted accounts, and reports and moderation records are kept privately for up to 180 days so that we can respond to safety concerns and legal requests, and are then permanently erased.
- Photos and videos that were uploaded but never posted are erased after 24 hours.
Your choices and rights
- Edit or delete your posts and replies at any time.
- Change your profile, language and Nearby distance in Settings.
- Block anyone; they won't be able to message you and you won't see their content.
- Delete your account from Settings → Delete my account. Your content disappears for everyone straight away.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, a correction, or to withdraw consent, by writing to [privacy@your-domain].
Children
locazn is for people aged 18 and over. Please don't use it if you are younger.
Security
Access to data is controlled in our database so that people can only see what they are allowed to. Data is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes
We will update this page and tell you in the app if anything important changes.
Contact and grievances
Questions or complaints: [privacy@your-domain]. Grievance Officer: [Grievance Officer name, email and address]. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days.
